www.notepod.com

This website www.notepod.com sells these notepad type books with graph paper inside.  The book allows you to design apps for the iphone with pages that are already scaled to the dimensions of the iphone.

I think that this is an extremely clever idea because there is definitely a market for this type of design.

www.designcommission.com

Another website that Chris Murphy mentioned was www.designcommission.com so i went on and had a look at it.  The company designs websites for its clients, i chose a few examples to show the range of work that they do for lots of different types of companies.

The images below show the layout of the website that they designed for their client Kevin Cruff. I chose this design because i feel it shows how well they understand their client, they know that he is a photographer and the purpose of the website is to showcase his work in the best possible light.  To do this they have used dull colours the let the images stand out from the background as well as a limited amount of text so that it does not take away from the images.

This next website that i have chosen is one for Greenlight.  I chose this one because again i think that the black and grey colour scheme works well for the type of website that it is.  It allows the images to stand out from the background and the scroll across menu on the first page is something that i think works well and gives it a professional feel.

The final web design i chose was for marvel, i chose this design because i feel that it mixes illustration and graphic/web design in a successful way that would appeal to viewers of the website.

www.hu2.com

After seeing the talk from Chris Murphy i decided to go on and have a look at some of the websites he had talked about. This website was an online shop that sells Vinyl stickers. I found some of the designs extremely interesting and i have seen what a good idea it actually is. It is something that there would be a big market for and it is something that you could have fun designing and creating.

I think the chalkboard designs are particularly clever as i think they would be popular for cafes and shops to display information without actually having to physically move a board around to put it out in the morning and bring it in at night.

Graphically all the designs make a real statement and their diverse range of designs mean that there is a design that will suit everyone.

New York

I just recently came back from a trip to new york and i thought that it would be good to post some of the pictures that i took, firstly because i thought that some of the images were quite intersting showing the landscape of New York. Secondly because of the photographs from Times Square, it is just full of billboards and electronic screens filled with advertising everywhere you look!

From the pictures of Times Square you can just sense how busy the area is and the amount of advertising, which some may say is tacky and over the top, i think is extremely appropriate for the type of city that New York is. It truely is a wonderful sight especially at night all lit up it definately is a must see to feel the buzz and excitement of New York life.

www.smashingmagazine.com

I found some really amazing photography on www.smashingmagazine.com, each equally as stunning in its own right either for its content, unusual photographic style or subject matter.  They really inspire you to look at things in a different way and to look for beauty in unexpected places.

Vexel art

I found this form of design on smashmagazine.com, the name for this type of art comes from a mix of vector and pixel.  They are made up of a number of layered shapes.  I know some people are not impressed by work that is created on programmes such as Photoshop but i really think that these images are truly beautiful and would take alot of knowledge of the package to create.
